Welcome to the Hickstead eNewsletter |
We thought we might have been dodging thunderstorms today for the penultimate day of the Prenetics Royal International Horse Show, but thankfully this wasn't the case. But while the forecasted thunder and lightning didn't make an appearance, the competition was certainly electrifying! Anthony Condon and Jay Halim both narrowly missed out on a second International Arena win each within the space of 24hrs, with Mark Edwards and Sammie-Jo Coffin nudging them off the top spots in the day's two-star international showjumping classes - scroll down to find out how things played out. Meanwhile, in the showing, Jayne Ross had a win with a six-year-old small hunter who is a reformed character, having been a 'bit of a lad' to start with. It was also a special day for the husband and wife duo, Robert and Sarah Walker, who swept the board in the hacks.
Tomorrow is the final day of the Prenetics Royal International Horse Show, so we take a look at what's still to look forward to. Tickets are still available online and at the gate, and we'd love it if as many of you as possible came down to the show.

Robert and Sarah Walker had an unforgettable day when taking both the champion and reserve spots in the Brereton Supreme Hack Championship. Robert rode small hack victor Parkgate Royal Visit William to take the tricolour, with wife Sarah standing reserve with the large hack Forgeland Hyde Park.
Meanwhile, a four-year-old mare making her Hickstead debut took the BMHS Supreme Miniature Horse Championship, and Jayne Ross added another Hickstead sash to her collection with a win in the Culford Lodge Commodities Small Hunter Championship. At the grand age of 18, Willem De Lux looked as good as ever today when winning the CSI2* Prenetics Castle Stakes. Cornwall-based Sammie-Jo Coffin was drawn third to go, but she led almost from start to finish with the experienced Hickstead campaigner. Earlier, in the RIHS Southdown Stakes, Mark Edwards took the title with Montreuxs Tale. Unlike Sammie-Jo, he had the benefit of being drawn third last to go - which meant he knew exactly what he had to do to beat the leading time. Click below for our daily report. |

It could turn into the battle of the showing behemoths tomorrow in the British Horse Society Supreme Horse championship. Allister Hood is bidding for a ninth Winston Churchill title, while Jayne Ross is hoping to win her sixth. But there will be plenty of other riders aiming to stop either of them from lifting showing's best known trophy, including today's hack victor Robert Walker. We expect the Supreme Products Supreme Pony to be just as hard fought - the good news is we'll be streaming both finals live on Hickstead.TV.
Then we have the pinnacle of the week's showjumping action, with the £6,000 Prenetics Royal International Vase, then the best British-based riders will be battling it out for honours in the Science Supplements BHS Queen Elizabeth II Cup. Will a new name join the historic roll of honour? Come down to Hickstead to find out, and if you can't be there in person, make sure you watch on livestream! |
