Top prizes and glorious sunshine saw guests come out in their finery for Hickstead’s annual Ladies’ Day, held on the Saturday of the Agria Royal International Horse Show.
First prize went to West Sussex-based nurse Naruschka Henriques-Green (third from left), who won a luxury spa break at stay at Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa. She went for a Spanish-themed look, with a black dress from Self Portrait, a matching hat from a boutique milliner from Spain and shoes from LK Bennett.
“It feels wonderful to win, and I didn't expect to!” said Naruschka, who works at a clinic alongside her husband and has been to the show on several occasions. “It was a great turnout with high competition, so I’m really astonished to win, because there were some top contenders.”
The runner-up was Warninglid’s Chezzie Brough, who is a regular Hickstead attendee – she has been coming to the showground since she was tiny, and she now owns Cooley Park Muze who had a top 10 finish with Gemma Stevens in Thursday’s Ashby Underwriting Eventers’ Challenge. Chezzie won a stay at South Lodge Hotel, including spa access and dinner for two.
“It feels absolutely amazing. It's been a bit of a journey for me recently, I had to have an eye removed a couple of years ago, and I've lost so much confidence and self-belief, so I really had to push myself to do this. I never dreamt this would happen, and it's just the boost I needed mentally,” she said.
Chezzie had bought her skirt and a jacket from the shopping village at last year’s show, and made a winning return to the showground in her stylish outfit – adding a vintage hat that belonged to mother to complete the outfit.
In third was Angela Janes, who won a tour and tasting at the Highweald Wine vineyard, while all the finalists were treated to a beautiful bouquet from Cottage Flowers.
