The Inspired Arena Polo Masters took place at the All England Polo Club, Hickstead last weekend (7-8 January), with Playnation taking the title after a closely-fought final match against Team Inspired.
The British weather was out in full force, with wind and rain throughout the game - but that didn’t spoil the polo, or the players' ability to demonstrate their skills.
After the first two chukkas the game was tied, with both teams testing each other’s limits. Headed into the final chukka, Team Inspired took a two-goal lead - having had the wind advantage - but a determined Playnation side led by the attack of Charlie Wooldridge, the penalty skills of Niall Donnelly and a great goal by John Bunn managed to fight back in the fourth and take the lead 16-15 with 30sec on the clock.
John Bunn saved a sure goal and looked like securing the win for Playnation, but a wonderful ride-off from Anna Escobedo, then a run from Jonny Good who found teammate Nell Jacob on a super-fast turn before scoring, meant Inspired tied the game at 16-16.
An extra chukka ensued, and within 15sec, Donnelly had found the goal after intercepting a backhand from Good, crowning Playnation the victors with 17 goals to 16.
Earlier in the day Astra beat Bell Fruit games to win the Subsidiary Final.
The AEPC wishes to extend their gratitude to INSPIRED for their continued support of the Arena Polo Masters, since its inception in 2018.
